Second Career is a cost-sharing grant provided on the basis of need. Therefore, applicants may be required to contribute to their training or education.

The Second Career grant may cover such things as tuition, books, transportation, and a basic living allowance. Additional support may be available to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities, dependent care, costs of living away from home and academic upgrading.

What are the new enhancements to the Second Career Program?

With the latest announcement on the Second Career program’s eligibility expansion, more Ontarians can now be a step away from their dream job. By Spring 2022, the Ontario Second Career program will accept applications even from unemployed individuals with little to no work experience. Newcomers, social assistance recipients, youth, gig workers, and self-employed individuals may now qualify.

Under the enhanced Second Career Program, qualifying Ontarians may be eligible for up to $28,000 in funding to assist with the cost of their tuition, fees, books, transportation, childcare and other applicable expenses including a basic living allowance up to a maximum of $410 per week.

Funding for programs in one of the 4 priority streams below will be fast tracked, meaning you can start your education sooner knowing you’ve been approved under the Second Career Program. A list of our current programs that fall within the 4 fast track streams is also listed below. Other programs not listed below may also qualify for Second Career Program.
