Laid off? Looking for a new career? Second Career is an Ontario government program that can help you:

  • Train for a new career
  • Find out what is needed in the job market
  • Learn about careers that build on your skills
  • Get financial support

What is Second Career?
The Second Career Strategy will help recently laid-off workers who require long-term skills training to find work in high-skill occupations that are in demand in the local labour market.

The strategy provides financial assistance based on individual need to help people with some of the costs associated with acquiring training, including tuition and books.

The Second Career Strategy is part of the government's three-year, $1.5 billion Skills to Jobs Action Plan announced in March 2008.

Second Career helps people get the training or education they need to get a good job. It provides financial help to pay for tuition and things like:

  • Books
  • Living expenses
  • Help caring for dependents
  • Travel
  • Transportation
  • Disability supports
  • Other living and training costs

How does it work?
Second Career can help an applicant with the costs of tuition, books, living expenses and other costs associated with the training to build skills for a new career. triOS College will play an essential part in this process by providing you with high-quality, hands-on training, leading not only to a reputable diploma, but also a rewarding career.

How do you qualify?
Second Career is a new Ontario government program designed to help people who have been laid off within the last 4 years and are currently unemployed or working less than 20 hours a week.
The program will help unemployed workers who commit to a long-term training plan make the transition to new careers in growing areas of the economy.

What programs qualify?
Most Diploma programs at triOS College qualify for this funding, including Business, Technology, Healthcare and Law.  For a list of programs, please contact triOS.
