We need technology in our lives because it helps us keep up with everyday changes and offers various tools for development and information exchange.

Internet of Things

Everyone knows what the Internet is, but some may not be aware there is an expansion to it called the Internet of Things, which is often shortened to IoT. Essentially, the Internet of Things is connecting devices with an on/off switch to the Internet, or to each other. Such devices include everyday appliances like coffee makers, washing machines, toasters, and microwaves. It also includes your smartphone, headphones, wearable devices, and just about any other device you can think of!

So what does it mean? It could mean any number of things for your daily routine. For instance, if your alarm (on your phone or smart clock) is connected to your coffee maker through the Internet of Things, when it goes off in the morning to wake you up, you could have it set to automatically start making a pot of coffee for you at the same time. You can also use it to heat or cool your home before you arrive home, choose the best route to get you where you need to go, et cetera. The Internet of Things could even work to reorder office supplies before you actually run out!

Wearable Technology

Wearable technology, like the ever popular FitBit, is really gaining traction. There are countless ways to have technology on your person at all times, including the previously mentioned FitBit, as well as the Apple Watch, GoPro, Garmin Vivoactive HR, and more.

Wearable technology is making it much easier for individuals to track their exercise and stay connected to the office. Before you know it, wearable technology will be everywhere in your professional life—which is why it is a great idea to educate yourself as much as you can on this topic.

Augmented and Virtual Reality

In 2016, Pokémon Go came on the scene and became perhaps the most popular augmented reality game out there. Since then, augmented reality and virtual reality have made significant technological advancements. Another notable development in this realm was the Oculus Rift. Then there are all the developments in relation to Google VR. It is safe to say that both realities are here to stay and are set to become even more popular in 2017.

Automation

The age of automated tasks is upon us. Ever heard the rumour that a robot is going to replace workers? This is exactly what automation refers to. As 2017 advances, we can expect to see more automation when it comes to tasks that were previously exclusively human performed, such as writing journalistic articles. Automation means the nature of human jobs is going to change, and productivity will really start to climb in jobs where automation is gaining a hold.
