Success in today’s healthcare world depends on having well trained employees who can multi-task to meet a variety of challenges. The triOS Personal Support Worker program has been designed to provide students with all of the administrative and clinical knowledge and skills required for employment as a Personal Support Worker.
The Personal Support Worker program enables you to develop skills required to provide personal support services to patients and their families, clients, and residents in the community, at home, in hospitals and in long-term care facilities. Services provided by the PSW include assistance in routine daily living activities; mobility; personal care and hygiene; ongoing medical conditions; and management of household activities.
- National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) curriculum that maps to the Ontario provincial approved training standard
- Classrooms that simulate real-world healthcare settings, including hospital beds, wheel chairs and other required equipment
- Clinical work placement in a community and long-term care facility
- Microsoft Office, Microsoft Imagine Standard and Windows are included in the program fees
Career ManagementOur Career Management program introduces students to the strategies and components of an effective job search, including self-marketing and awareness, skills inventory, job search tools and the job market. The Career Management course is delivered by our on-campus Career Services Team who are there throughout the job search to assist and mentor students towards achieving their ultimate goal of employment in their field of study.
Our Team of Career Services Professionals maintain relationships in their communities with key employers and organizations that recognize the value triOS graduates have to offer. The skills learned throughout Career Management at triOS will continue to serve students in their job search as they navigate their new careers.
CPR and First AidUpon successful completion of this course, students will achieve the St. John's Ambulance Standard Level First Aid and Level C CPR.
Student Success StrategiesThis course stresses the importance of developing non-technical skills to enhance personal, academic and career success. This includes understanding learning styles and honing practical study skills, such as memory, reading, note- and test-taking techniques. Personal exercises will focus on teamwork, decision making and problem solving skills, setting goals and maintaining a positive attitude techniques for managing change, stress and conflict will also be explored.

Excellent job opportunities are expected for this occupation, as rapid employment growth and high replacement needs produce a large number of job openings. The number of elderly people, an age group characterized by worsening health problems and requiring some assistance, is projected to rise substantially. In addition to the elderly, patients in other age groups will increasingly rely on home care, a trend that reflects several developments, including efforts to contain costs by moving patients out of hospitals and nursing care facilities as quickly as possible, the realization that treatment can be more effective in familiar rather than sterile surroundings, and the development and improvement of medical technologies for in-home treatment.
Personal Support Workers usually work for private and not-for profit home care agencies. Some are self-employed. Personal support workers may also work for senior citizens’ homes, nursing homes or hospitals. They also provide care in the client’s home. Note: Some career and education options may require advanced degrees, further training or experience.

The Personal Support Worker Certificate Program is an intensive comprehensive 31-week program recognized by the National Association of Career Colleges. The triOS Program combines instructor-led training with a clinical work placement designed to prepare students for a career in healthcare.
Canadian High School Diploma or Mature Student Status (18 years of age and academic achievement assessment passed); able to pass a clear police check including a clear Vulnerable Sector check; a clear medical certificate indicating current immunization and free from communicable diseases; completion of a Technical Literacy Examination to determine fluency in English.
